Grab keeps lines open with transport officials

Grab, the Southeast Asia-focused ride-sharing app, says it will continue to engage with Thai authorities to promote what it touts as the future of transport.

The company operates GrabTaxi, the largest taxi-driver network in the country, with the support of the Land Transport Department.

"As Bangkok is ranked as one of the most visited, yet congested cities, our service will help with the country's effort to reduce traffic congestion by reducing the use of private cars and alleviate overcrowded public transport services during rush hours," said Wee Tang, country head of Grab Thailand.

GrabTaxi service brings safer and more affordable transport to Thais, and is convenient, with a booking made with just a few taps of the mobile phone application, he added.

Mr Tang said, "Grab is working closely with the Department of Land Transport to understand how we can work together to support passengers and our driver-partners in Thailand."

"We will continue serving Thai people with our clear mission and vision to provide safe, reliable and accessible transport to everyone," he said.

GrabTaxi is available in seven cities including Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Ubon Ratchathani and Khon Kaen.

Grab launched its first service in Bangkok with GrabTaxi service in October 2013.

Mr Tang said Grab is the first ride-hailing company worldwide to be awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification, demonstrating its strong internal governance and quality management standards.

Grab started its first service with support from the Malaysian taxi sector for its GrabTaxi service in 2012. The company provides transport in 35 cities across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Grab has over 710,000 drivers in the region, with over 36 million passenger app downloads.
