The Bangkok Bus Terminal will be moved back to its previous location in Mo Chit area by 2023.

The Transport Ministry approved the relocation of the interprovincial bus hub on Friday, according to Deputy Minister Pichit Akarathit .

The station is now part of the area designated to be developed into the Bang Sue central station, touted as the rail transport hub in the future and replacing Hua Lamphong.

The new location for the bus hub is what is now the BTS skytrain maintenance centre and the park-and-ride space near the BTS Chatuchak station.

It will be in the area around the 63-rai Phahon Yothin Transport Centre.

The land belongs to the Treasury Department and Bangkok Terminal won the bid to develop 712,350 sq m. A building will be built there and The Transport Co, which operates the interprovincial bus services, is allowed to use the fourth and fifth floors, totalling 112,000 sq m, as the new terminal.

Connections are planned with the Bang Sue Central Station, modelled after the Tokyo Station so it becomes the starting point for travel all over the country and internationally. Four plots totalling 300 rai in the area will be developed for commercial use.
