The Tourism Authority of Thailand launched a “buy one, get one free” room promotion at 32 hotels in Bangkok and Phuket until October to attract visitors.

TAT deputy governor Juthaporn Rerngronasa said Monday that the promotional campaign would run Sept 22 to Oct 31 and was available at 15 hotels in Bangkok and 17 in Phuket.

The TAT selected Bangkok and Phuket for the "Thailand Stronger Together" campaign because they were popular destinations for foreign tourists, Mrs Juthaporn said.

Tourists can book their two-for-one rooms with tens of thousands of travel agencies in the Gullivers Travel Associates network.

The campaign was especially aimed at wooing visitors from Asian and Middle East countries to reach Thailand's goal of 28.8 million international arrivals this year and generating 1.4 trillion baht in tourism-related revenue, Mrs Juthaporn said.

The campaign comes in the wake the Erawan shrine bombing that killed 20 people and injured 130 others in Bangkok on Aug 17.

The Tourism and Sports Ministry earlier estimated the explosion would cost 64.3 billion baht in lost tourism revenue due to the loss of 1.33 million visitors. The ministry expects tourism to recover in the fourth quarter.

The TAT is launching new tourism advertisements, campaigns and festivals to attract visitors in the remaining months of 2015.
