Taiwan's EVA Air plans to strengthen its profile in Thailand by raising its Bangkok-Taipei flights by 10 for a total of 27 over the next three years.
The increase will be carried out in phases of two or three additional weekly flights next year in response to rising demand, senior vice-president Clark Yeh said.
EVA Air is one of the largest carriers serving the city pair, with 17 flights a week via a combination of Boeing 777-300 and Airbus 330 wide-body jets.
In addition, the airline operates seven weekly flights between Bangkok and London, four a week to Vienna and three a week to Amsterdam, all non-stop by wide-body jets.
Last year EVA Air carried more than 112,000 passengers from Bangkok to Taipei, and it expects the number will grow by 10% this year, Mr Yeh said.
He said safety and service quality were the main features EVA Air used in promoting its business in Thailand.
In Bangkok yesterday, EVA Air launched a joint promotion with the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration (SMTA) to encourage Thai tourists to visit the largest Chinese city by population through the Taiwanese capital. The SMTA said Shanghai Disneyland, due to open next year, will add to a series of tourist attractions the city has to offer.
EVA Air is attempting to present Taipei as a gateway to Shanghai, which in 2012 attracted 8 million foreign tourists. The Taiwanese carrier operates 29 flights a week from Taipei to Shanghai.
Shanghai is one of 29 destinations in China served by the airline, which offers 128 flights a week to the country from Taiwan.
