Thailand among regional leaders in foreign arrivals

Thailand was among the top three in the region with the strongest growth in international visitor arrivals for the first half this year, countering the contraction from disaster-hit Japan to Asia Pacific.

The kingdom recorded 28% growth from January to June, thanks largely to the absence of political unrest, while Sri Lanka and Burma recorded gains of 37% and 29%, respectively, according to preliminary results from the Bangkok-based Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata).

Of the 31 destinations in the region reporting half-year arrivals, 26 indicated positive growth, with 14 showing double-digit gains.

While all Thais and the bureaucracy should be nurturing tourists, they're happily ripping them off but the time will come when they'll both suffer the consequences... Word's getting around to those who'd intended to come here that there are better places to go and where they won't be parted with their money by scams and corruption that's so prevalent in Thailand... BAD NEWS TRAVELS FAST.
