Council head vote cancelled

The election for president of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) was cancelled at the last minute yesterday due to internal conflicts and fighting between the two candidates.

The race to lead the country's most influential private tourism body has been fierce, because it works closely with the government.

Outgoing president Piyaman Tejapaibul has reportedly fought with Kongkrit Hiranyakit, a former TCT president and the group's current head of policy and planning, to gain the full support of the "big four" tourism associations _ the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), the Association of Domestic Travel, the Thai Hotels Association (THA) and the Thai Travel Agents Association.
