Thai tourists are visiting Cambodia in increasing numbers - with visitors almost doubling in the first half of 2012 compared to the same period last year.

Almost 92,000 Thais visited the neighbouring country from January to June, an increase from 48,000, or a 90% jump from the same period last year, according to a Cambodian Tourism Ministry report.

Disc2 - Not true. The mistake you are making is assuming that criminalising something stops it from happening.
It doesn't. Nothing that has been banned has disappeared. Ever. In history.
While it's true that some people will not handle gambling well, the same applies to most pastimes. Drinking, smoking, drug use, gambling, shopping, extreme sports. There are always individuals who screw things up... Only a fool then blocks everyone from participating.
Thailand has criminalised gambling, drug use and prostitution. And vast numbers of Thais gamble, take drugs and use prostitutes. Legalise and educate.

No no no, they are not visiting cambodia, they go there for a short stay for spending money in the Casino at Poipet border. I have been there when I used the "visa run" service, there are a lot of Thai men played casino there, by the way it is free of dinner and drinks there too, why not go there for a short time visit.

A friend of mine (a thai lady) went to cambodia for a holiday with her daughter, they loved it, telling me its cheap and the people were really nice and friendly and she would love to live there! No they didnt gamble!

I agree with Thai policy. Over time gambling disrupts civil society, destroys families etc. I've seen this in Australia where bankruptcies, divorces and suicides resulting from gambling problems are prevalent.

Another reason to legalise gambling in Thailand...
Anyone who has seen the queues at Poipet on national holidays will understand.
Let Thais gamble at home and keep the money in country instead of flowing over the borders.
