TAT targets independent travellers via web trio

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is joining hands with Google, TripAdvisor and Zizzee to promote its products next year.

The cooperation, announced yesterday, aims to increase the number of free independent travellers (FITs) by at least 10% next year.

Many travellers prefer to plan their trips and search for information via the internet. Tourism-related online reviews are trusted more than advertising or promotions as the number of FITs worldwide significantly increases.

I've used TripAdvisor and it offers independent travelers own experiences both good and bad, they pull no punches. TAT had better encourage the government to get serious in eliminating all the scams, rip-offs and crimes against tourists or be prepared for all the negative "real time" Thailand experiences from travelers to blow up in its face. Also Zizzee is a Thai travel agency with a business agenda and will pale in comparison to those who use TripAdvisor.

Zizzee.com is not even close to professional standards. Who are they and why are they handling TAT's search? Someone's "friend" perhaps?

Mass-tourism is not the most suitable solution to help local communities to make money as tourists coming through large tour-operators are pennyless and spend little money with small shops, restaurants and so on; only tour-guides and most of them illegal foreign tour-guides, and foreign companies grabb the large profit at the expenses of local hotels and tour contractors. Today a tour in Phuket, Phang-Nga and Krabi sold at 3000 baht is shared at 50% with the tour-guides or the foreign companies and left just 1500 baht to pay the whole expenses of the day-tours.
