NY travellers spent over B13bn

Thai and foreign tourists spent more than 13 billion baht travelling during New Year holiday, with the northern part of the country getting the highest number of visitors, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Thawatchai Aranyik, TAT's deputy governor for domestic marketing, said approximately 2.3 million people travelled throughout the country, incuding usually less popular destinations such as Prachinburi and Sa Kaeo provinces, during the recent holiday.

Hotels and resorts countrywide reported an average accommodation occupation rate of 95%.

There is no way they could have fiqures for this holiday. Just TAT trying to spin some good news. Happens everyday.

Yeah. I went to chiang rai this holiday but I only spent 5,000 bath. I stayed there for three days. The bulk of my expenses are my hotel accommodation and bus fares. That's all. So, assuming that all the 485,000 spent two times the amount I spent during the holiday which is 5,000 then you will multiply 10,000 x 485,000 and you will get 4,850,000,000. This is Four million eight hundred fifty Thousand baht. It didn't hit billion. I presumed this report is exagerated.I don't believed either that all the tourists who went to the north spent more than 10 thousand each, some maybe less than 5,000 like me.Simple mathematics. What a way to deceived

I am no government official and no accountant but somehow I doubt that this number can be correct. How does the TAT know now how much money people spent a few days ago throughout Thailand?
I know a couple of hotels and restaurants and they prepare in this week reports about how much money they earned last month. They don’t know yet because many of these reports are far from finished. So where does the TAT get its numbers from? Do they asks banks how much money people got out of ATM machines or how much they spent with credit cards or how can the TAT possibly have the correct numbers now?

How does the Tourism Authority of Thailand know how much was spent and how many people traveled? They don't. Period.
