Poll: Thailand top tourist destination

More than half the foreign tourists polled recently agreed that Thailand is their favorite destination in the Asean region, Bangkok Poll of Bangkok University reported on Thursday.

The pollsters interviewed 686 foreign tourists visiting Thailand, seeking their views on Thailand’s readiness for the debut of the Asean Economic Community in December 2015, from Jan 11-13.

Bangkok Poll said 58% of the respondents voted for Thailand as the most attractive tourist destination in Asean, followed by Vietnam (34.1%), Cambodia (30.6%), Laos (30.3%) and Singapore (26.1%).

It appears that the most important question : WHY ? was left unasked.
I really doubt that most come for the culture or ruins but then 38 %
    didn't respond.

Would be more interesting to find out why the 42% who did not consider Thailand no 1 why they still decided to come. And asking tourists about AEC does not make sense. I guess 98% of them do not even know what it is. I suspect most of them checked the yes box to be nice.

apparently the 686 people that were polled were tourist operators from other countries

then again I can make a poll come out how I want if I word the questions

“Asked whether Thailand was ready for the AEC, 83% of the polled foreigners said yes, but 16.1% of them disagreed”.

How would tourists know? Do they know that Thailand is bottom of the list of 10 Asean countries in English Proficiency? Do they know that Thailand is bottom for political stability? Other areas where Thailand is on the bottom rung are its lack of R&D centres,
salaries for doctors and nurses, safety issues etc. In a recent poll conducted by Bansomdej Poll of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabaht University concluded that just over half of people (52.3%) thought Thailand is NOT yet ready for the establishment of the AEC in 2015.
