Tourism revenue predicted at B1 trillion

Kasikorn Research Centre forecast on Wednesday that around 24.5 million tourists will visit Thailand in 2013, bringing in 1.06 trillion baht of revenue.

The number of tourist arrivals to the kingdom and tourism earnings was expected to increase from last year by 10% and 14% respectively. Visitors from China, Japan, South Korea, India and Russia are expected to be the main contributors.

Tourism would prosper in 2013 because the world economy had recently become more stable. However, the 300 baht daily minimum wage would create a problem since tourist businesses employ a lot of staff, the Kasikorn research team said.

D5 that's pretty unenlightened. There ARE many decent thai people in the tourist industry just like there are unfortunately those not so honest and decent. Most tourists i've spoke to have commented about how friendly and helpful hotel staff, guides and other personnel have been

They'll need even more Korean and Chinese tourists, who spend half their day in coaches and spending zero as it's all pre-paid back in their home country.
And the spending power of Europeans and Americans falls daily as the baht spirals stronger each day.
Wait till the Russian bubble bursts.

If such money figures materialize, how much will be spent on education and training of the tourism related workforce, which is in dire need of qualified personnel and slipping further down to below average services provisioned to tourists.

Each tourist will be given a kilo of rice on departure as a memento of their visit to Thailand.

Those figures are just numbers yet, it's still to be seen. don't be so complacent on those forecast by (un)realiable group of people. With all the negative news about how Thailand treat their foreign tourist - the unabated death of foreigners, framed-up crimes against foreigners, bribes by cops, corruptions and unstable political situation will make this forecast impossible. Adding the fact that, almost all ASEAN nations are also making efforts to attract foreigners to visit their country. Thailand has nothing new to offer, the place is saturated compared to other asean nations who are just starting to make way as tourist destination...

The total spend-per-day of tourists from Vietnam and China does not come close to those from Europe. In order to maintain the net value of tourism to the economy, Thailand must increase the numbers of individual tourists, as those tourists each spend fewer baht.

The end result of this will be increased crowding, and lower-cost hotels and destinations.

As crowding increases, it always (invariably) drives out the higher end tourists.

This is known as the 'death spiral' for tourist destinations, as lower-end tourists drive out higher-end tourists and quality falls and crime rises. The trend is already underway on Thailands beaches.

With so much income coming into Thailand, why do Thai's treat foreign tourist so poorly? Need to change the Thai attitude from scamming for money to one of respect and appreciation.

How does anyone, Kasikorn, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, or the Ministry of Tourism and Sports know how much tourists in Thailand spend. Simple, they don't.

I do understand, that said 'experts' had a good look EU and US economies recently. Right? Whether 'visitors' from China, Japan, South Korea, India and Russia will be filling the gap remains to be seen.
