Koh Phi Phi facing water crisis

Phi Phi island in Krabi province is struggling to maintain a supply of water as the reservoirs dry up after two months without rain, and hotels and other businesses are stockpiling water for their customers, according to a report in Thai Rath.

Weeraphan Chantaro, head of the Island’s tourist association, said if rain does not fall by April local residents and local business will suffer.

With more travellers than ever visiting the island this year, resorts and restaurant owners are worried how they will continue supplying clean water to their customers.

since years the same problems. only the fast money is interesting for the "investors" and "owners' of the resorts or hotels. more and more tourists - that bring the big money - today! what's with the future of the children? only cleaning the rooms in the dirty tourist areas? but the fast money flows.

TIT Never any forward looking. They want to have nuclear energy. Scary thought.

So, those in charge just trust to luck every year that it will rain enough. No contingency plan, no forward thinking about what to do if the rain doesn't come. Just trust to luck. Wonderful.

No water? Image that! Must have taken some excellent planning by the city officials to get into this mess. This is exactly what happens when no one knows how to do their job or could care less about doing their job because there is no money involved.

How can water cost 25-30 baht per litre if water is bought from the local government? Even bottle water can be bought for less than 30 baht / litre at local convenience stores. It doesn't add up.
