Asian airlines' profits soar

- +

Asia-Pacific airlines posted a 6.7% increase in net profit last year as strong passenger demand offset lacklustre cargo markets and high oil prices.

The 23 carriers based in the region including Thai Airways International and Singapore Airlines achieved aggregate earnings of US$5.2 billion for 2012, up from $4.8 billion in 2011, according to preliminary figures released yesterday by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).

Combined operating revenue rose by 7.56% to $175 billion.
