WASHINGTON - The US economy grew at a modest 1.2% in the second quarter of this year, falling well below analysts' expectations of 2.6%, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

Growth in the first quarter of 2016 was also revised downward, from 1.1% to 0.8%, reflecting lower results from exports and residential fixed investment -- which includes money spent on homes and made from selling them.
