ECB could extend bond purchase programme

FRANKFURT - The European Central Bank could extend its contested bond purchase programme beyond September 2016, its president Mario Draghi said on Thursday.

Referring to the so-called quantitative easing or QE, Draghi said at a news conference that "the asset purchase programme provides sufficient flexibility in terms of adjusting the size, composition and duration of the programme".

It was "intended to run until the end of September 2016, or beyond, if necessary," he added.
