| Expression check
The expression muean kan as in kaw tawng praptua yoe muean kan; tawn raek raek kaw hiw muean kan doesn't mean 'the same as' which is its usual meaning. Here it has no direct translation, it means 'as you suggest.' So if your friend says "hiw mai (Are you hungry?)", you'd say "hiw muean kan " if youre hungry. Another expression is wae as in diew wae haa nampaana pai thawaai duay means to make a quick stop on your way to do something. You can wae khaao hawngnam (to stop for a restroom visit), wae thiibaan paep nueng (to stop at my place for just a second), for example. Vocabulary check: |

By half past seven, the morning routine is over. Every monk gathers at the sermon hall for breakfast followed by the lengthy morning chanting. Lunch is around eleven and thats it no dinner. For a new monk, the daily life under the clerical routine must be much different from that in a secular pattern. This week lets talk about a newly ordained monk (phra buat mai).
Right before or a little after dawn, during Buddhist Lent, you might see rows of Buddhist monks in bright glowing saffron robes strolling bare-footed up and down town streets, lanes and alleys. Newly ordained along with veteran Buddhist monks are composed as they go about their temple neighbourhood with bowls under the robes.
