waa duay kaan nueng khaao
Rice is the main staple of Thailand and many Asian countries. Khaaoniew (glutinous rice) and khaaojao (nonglutinous
rice) are two main varieties of rice in Thailand. Khaaoniew ,
sometime is referred as khaaonueng , is preferred in the Northeast
and the North. A third well-known variety is khaaoniewdam
or black glutinous rice. Lets look this week at how to prepare rice.
In
Thailand in general, we have rice for every meal. We start off our days
with khaaotom, a small and light meal of soft-boiled rice or rice
soup. At lunch, we quickly fill our stomachs with a single rice dish.
For dinner, when we are more relaxed at home, we sit down for a full dinner
enjoying a plate of piping hot boiled rice together with a few other dishes.
