With the possibility of the war between the United States and Iraq looming, the government has improvised a subsidy scheme to help people with the rise in oil prices. It seems, however, the government has to change the capping mechanism in order for the scheme to be effective, according to this Post Today's news report.

แทน ภาระชดเชยก็จะลดลง 15 สตางค์ต่อลิตร และจะทำให้ประชาชนได้ประโยชน์เ
พราะสุดท้ายจะต้องเป็นผู้จ่ายคืนอยู่ดี
การชดเชยโดยยึดราคาส่งออกยังสอดคล้องกับสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันที่ไทยมีกำลังกลั่น
เหลือและต้องส่งออกน้ำมันสำเร็จรูปอีกจำนวนมาก การะทรวงพลังงาน ควรเจรจา
กับโรงกลั่นในประเด็นนี้ได้ เพราะปัจจบันโรงกลั่นน้ำมันกำไรจากค่าการกลั่นที่
เพิ่มสูงขึ้นมากตามวิกฤตการณ์น้ำมัน
