One hot movie-like news story last week was the disappearance of a huge uncut ruby from a safety deposit box of Siam Commercial Bank. The case involved a Singapore company and the Lao government which had reportedly provided the ruby as financial security to build the railway between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. The story took a twist when the Lao ambassador to Thailand said his government had never awarded a contract to the firm nor owned such a ruby, according to this Post Today's news report. In a report like this one, sensational words are sure to be found in the headline and throughout the story.
