Sap Jaak Khao looks at a selection of vocabulary from a timely news story in both Thai and English. It is helpful for learners of both languages

January 14, 2003

This week we're continuing the last week's discussion about the omissions of some words or syllables of long words. Like English news headline writing style, the Thai technique also often drops such words and syllables in order to available space. Readers unfamiliar with this style may stumble when reading. The news report below is about the tennis coverage which is dominating the sports sections of both English and Thai dailies. We also look at some tennis terms to help you understand other tennis news stories.
