Thai-English vocabulary from the Thai dailies

Sap Jaak Khao looks at a selection of vocabulary from a timely news story in both Thai and English. It is helpful for learners of both languages

Given the fact that Mr Thaksin Shinawatra's family owns many telecommunication businesses under the Shin Corporation Group, any movement of the firms will inevitable come under close scrutiny. It was no surprise when the name 'Shin Corp' was mentioned in the debate on the government's mid-term performance. An opposition MP said the firm was richer while the people became poorer as reported in this Post Today 's news story. Please also note the use of slang in the headline and abbreviations throughout the story.

ให้เห็นว่าการบริหารประเทศของรัฐบาลนี้ล้มเหลว
ขณะที่ ร.อ.สุชติ เชาว์วิศิษฐ์ รมว.คลัง ได้ชี้แจงว่าไม่เป็นความจริงที่ฝ่ายค้านกล่าวหาว่าเกษตรกร
ยากจนมีหนี้เพิ่มขึ้น แล้วบริษัทบางกลุ่มร่ำรวยขึ้น เพราะรัฐบาลได้ฟื้นฟูเศรษฐกิจทำให้ทุกคนใน
ระบบดีขึ้น ดูจาก จีดีพี สูงขึ้นร้อยละ 5 โดยเฉพาะปี 46 ภาคการเกษตรเติบโตขึ้นถึงร้อยละ 16 มี
