ดร. ศักดิ์สิทธ็ ตรีเดช รองปลัดกระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี ในฐานะหัวหน้าคณะผู้วิจัย “การ
ศึกษาปรากฎการณ์บั้งไฟพญานาคในพื้นที่ จ. หนองคาย” เปิดเผยว่า จากการลงพื้นที่เก็บข้อมูลของ
คณะผู้วิจัยกว่า 20 คน ตั้งแต่เดือนเมษายน 2546 ในพื้นที่ 9 จุดของ จ.หนองคาย โดยทำการศึกษา
ใน 2 ด้าน คือด้านสังคมและวิทยาศาสตร์ กล่าวว่า “ตอนนี้มีความเชื่อเกือบ 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์แน่นอนว่า
เป็นปรากฎการณ์ธรรมชาติและธรรมชาติที่เราถือว่าเป็นสภาวะเงื่อนไขที่พิเศษจริงๆ ว่า ถ้าจะ
เกิดแก๊สและมีการติดไฟอย่างที่ทีมวิจัยศึกษาต้องมีสภาวะทั้งในแง่อากาศ ระดับออกซิเจน ความ
กดดัน ความชื้นสัมพัทธ์ของอากาศ และอะไรต่างๆ เข้ามาในจุดที่สมดุลย์
