ไม่ใช่นะ
เพราะว่าผู้ชายก็บวชได้ ...

จะพูดว่า
เป็นการบวชของคฤหัสห์ก็ได้

In other words, it can be called an ordination for lay people.

phrohwaa mai tawng koonphom  phiengtae nung khaao hom khaao

เพราะว่าไม่ต้องโกนผม
เพียงแต่นุ่งขาวห่มขาว

Because we don’t have to shave our heads. We only put on white clothing,

fuek tham samaathi lae thuue siinpaet

ฝึกทำสมาธิและถือศีลแปด

Practice meditation and observe the Uposatha (the Eight Precepts).

ไม่รับประทานอาหารหลัง
เที่ยงไปแล้ว

to refrain from eating in the afternoon;

lawen jaak sing banthoeng lae kaanpradap rue toktaeng raangkaai

ละเว้นจากสิ่งบันเทิงและ
การตกแต่งร่างกาย

to refrain from entertainmentand beautifying the body

lae mai nang rue nawn bon thiisuung lae thiinawn yai

และไม่นั่งหรือนอนบนที่สูง
และที่นอนใหญ่

refrain from sitting or lying on a high place or a big mattress.

Ann:

uem  khlaai khlaai kap kaanpen nakbuat na

อืม คล้ายๆ กับการเป็น
นักบวชนะ

Umm! (It) sounds like a monastic life.

Oy:

chai tae pen phieng raya san san  yaangnoi yiisipsii chuamoong

ใช่ แต่เป็นเพียงระยะสั้นๆ
อย่างน้อย 24 ชั่วโมง

Right but just for a short time — at least for twenty-four hours.

Ann:

thammai Oy khit ja buat la

ทำไมอ้อยคิดจะบวชล่ะ

Why do you think you should join?

Oy:

chaaophut chuea waa kaanbuat pen kaanthambun yai

ชาวพุทธเชื่อว่าการบวช
เป็นการทำบุญใหญ่

Buddhists believe that renunciation is a great merit making.

pen kaanthothaen bunkhun phawmae

เป็นการทดแทนบุญคุณพ่อแม่

It’s a kind of paying back obligation to parents.

pen kaanthambun sueng daiphon thang chaat nii lae chaat naa

เป็นการทำบุญซึ่งได้ผล
ทั้งชาตินี้และชาติหน้า

(It)’s a merit making to be effective both in this and the next life.

Ann:

Oy chuea rueang chaat naa duay roe

อ้อยเชื่อเรื่องชาติหน้าด้วยเหรอ

Do you believe in the next life too, Oy?

ey… mairuu si na  Oy kaw phuut pai taam thii phuut phuut kan maa

เอ ... ไม่รู้สิ
อ้อยก็พูดไปอย่างนั้นแหละ
ตามที่พูดๆ กันมา

Eh… I don’t know. I’m just saying that what other people say.

mii ookaat dai oprom ton-eng kaw pen rueang dii na

มีโอกาสได้อบรมตนเอง
ก็เป็นเรื่องดีนะ

(But) to have a chance to train ourselves is a good thing to do.

chai  ja dai phon muearai mai samkhan  chaimai

ใช่ จะได้ผลเมื่อไรไม่สำคัญ
ใช่ไหม

True (and) when we get the reward is not that important, right?
