Language check:
Lets go over a few general expressions in day-to-day chatting. The first one is painai maa which is kind of a greeting in
Thai culture, and is one you may hear very often. Its response can be phom / chan pai + a place + maa or you can
just say plao maahaa khun (No [I didnt go anywhere], I just
come to see you.), plao phom / chan maa doenlen (No [I didnt
go anywhere], I just come for a walk). The next expression is the inviting pai duaykan mai (Would you like
to come along / with me?). For other occasions, you can just change pai to other verbs
like len thennit duaykan mai (Would you like to play tennis together?).
Another variation can be pai + a verb + duaykan mai like
pai len thennit duaykan mai, for instance. Vocabulary check:
What would you say to your Thai friends in the following situations? Answer keys: 1. sawatdii Oy pai nai maa

pai Yaowaraat kan mai The annual vegetarian festival began last Wednesday, which was the first day of the ninth month of the Chinese calendar. This auspicious celebration lasts for nine days. You can have a glimpse of age-old Chinese values in three main popular destinations Trang, Phuket, and here at Bangkoks China Town, Yaowarat. Meng and Martin walk there for a vegetarian noodle meal. |
