Another issue involving the third of the Triple Gems, Sangkha, has been in the news recently. Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra advised Buddhist monks to leave the monkhood if they like to talk politics in their sermons. This Post Today excerpt has the details.

‘ทิดแม้ว’เทศน์ อบรมหลวงพ่อ สังกัดพรรค
โพสต์ทูเดย์ — นายกรัฐมนตรีเทศนาพระทำตัวให้เป็นพระ ถ้าอยากวิจารณ์การเมือง
ให้ออกมาสังกัดพรรค

พ.ต.ท.ทักษิณ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี ให้สัมภาษณ์เมื่อวันที่ 20 กรกฎาคม ถึงกรณีที่มีการ
สั่งห้ามพระไม่ให้เทศน์เรืองการเมืองผ่านทางสถานีวิทยุของกรมประชาสัมพันธ์ ว่ายังไม่
ทราบรายละเอียด แต่โดยหลักการคือพระไม่ควรยุ่งเรื่องการเมือง ถ้าจะยุ่งเรื่องการเมือง
ก็ไม่ควรเป็นพระ นี่คือหลักทั่วไป ถ้าพระจะพูดเรื่องธรรมะเพื่อให้ประชาชนมีธรรมะก็เป็น
สิ่งที่ดี แต่ถ้าพระไปยึดมั่นถือมั่นเสียเองก็แย่ เพราะพระต้องปฏิบัติตามพระธรรมวินัย
ทำตามหลักธรรมคำสั่งสอนของพระพุทธเจ้า

“ถ้าพระอยากจะเล่นการเมืองก็ไม่มีปัญหา มาได้เลย จะเข้าพรรคไหนก็เข้าไป อย่าไปมีพรรค
พิเศษ มันไม่ใช่” นายกรัฐมนตรีกล่าว
