As April is a fierce summer month when most people enjoy going out
of town to get fresher air, its a good idea to closely look at expressions
about weather, or aakaat. When we go out of town, normally to a seafront or mountainous area,
were going taak aakaat. S ometimes we say to go suut aakaat bawrisut (clean and fresh
air). A general term to describe nice weather is aakaat dii. Closely related to aakaat is sunlight, or daet short
for saengdaet. Strong sun is described as daet raeng, and
to sunbathe is to aapdaet in Thai. To dry something in the sun is to phuengdaet. People can phuengdaet,
too, interchangeably with aapdaet. We can also use suay
(nice, beautiful) to describe the sun meaning just right for bathing
or photo taking. Heres a bonus for those who like food. daet diew, one session of being dried in the sun, is added to many fried fish, pork and beef dishes. A few most common are plaa samlii daet diew, muu daet diew and nuuea daet diew. Language check:
