Rains attack BKK causing critical traffic condition Another wave of rainstorms poured heavy rain down on Bangkok in the middle of Tuesday night and continued on until Wednesday morning. As a result, the trapped rainwater flooded many streets and caused the traffic to come to a standstill. A swarm of motorists called 1197 to file their complaints, while the BMA rushed in to pump out the floodwater in full speed. A source stationed at the Traffic Control Centre said that more than 420 lines of the 1197 hotline number have been overwhelmed by complaints about traffic congestions from affected motorists since early morning, despite the fact that most schools are now closed down for a term break.
