Surin allocates over B400m for domesticated elephant village

Surin — The Deputy Governor of Surin province has joined hands with Surin provincial administrative organization (PAO) in developing a model village for a domesticated elephants in the light of attracting stray elephants to their hometown. This project also aimed to be further developed into a tourist attraction.

Mr Seni Chittakasem said that he has joined hands with Mr Thongchai Mungcharoenporn, the PAO's chairman in conducting a project to bring elephants back home. As a result, they have drafted a five-year plan for a model village for domesticated elephants (2006-2010) hoping that elephants and mahouts could make a sufficient and sustainable living in their hometown.

นายเสนีย์ จิตตเกษม รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดสุรินทร์ เปิดเผยว่า ได้ร่วมกับนายธงชัย มุ่งเจริญพร นายกองค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัดสุรินทร์ ดำเนินโครงการนำช้างคืนถิ่นเพื่อพัฒนาสุรินทร์บ้านเกิด จึงได้ดำเนินการจัดทำร่างแผนแม่บทพัฒนาหมู่บ้านช้างเลี้ยงใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก ในระยะเวลา 5 ปี ระหว่าง พ.ศ.2549-2553 เพื่อเป็นการแก้ไขปัญหาช้างและควาญช้าง ให้สามารถดำรงชีพอยู่
ในท้องถิ่นบ้านเกิดของตนเองได้อย่างพอเพียงและยั่งยืน
