Sean:	thâ chà lên sǒngkrān tông mī àrāi bâng ná	ถ้าจะเล่นสงกรานต์ ต้อง มีอะไรบ้างนะ	To have fun during Songkran, what do we need?
Chai:	nùeng — pūen chìtnám sǒng — dīnsǒphōng  sǎm — nám òp thāi	หนึ่ง ปืนฉีดน้ำ สอง ดินสอพอง สาม น้ำอบไทย	One, a squirt gun. Two, clay powder, and finally, traditional Thai perfume.
Sean:	nám òp thāi  wái thām àrāi	น้ำอบไทย ไว้ทำอะไร	Traditional Thai perfume? What for?
Chai:	āo sài nāi nám  dâi bānyākàt thāi thāi dī	เอาใส่ในน้ำ ได้บรรยากาศไทยๆ ดี	To enhance the water with a pleasant Thai aroma.
Sean:	ūmm dī dī  thâonán rǒe	อือ! ดีๆ เท่านั้นเหรอ	OK! Is that all?
Chai:	thǎngnám khǎnnám phǒm chà súe kràbòk chìtnám dûai	ถังน้ำ ขันน้ำ ผมจะ ซื้อกระบอกฉีดน้ำด้วย	A bucket and a bowl. I’ll buy a big water gun or squirt tube.
Sean:	kràbòk chìtnám khūe àrāi	กระบอกฉีดน้ำคืออะไร	What’s a squirt tube?
Chai:	mān pēn kràbòk yāo yāo thām chàk thô pī-sī-wī  chái sùp nám  chàk thǎng láeo chìt òk pāi	มันเป็นกระบอกยาวๆ ทำ จากท่อพีซีวี ใช้สูบน้ำจาก ถังแล้วฉีดน้ำออกไป	It’s a long tube made from PVC. We will draw some water from a bucket into the tube and shoot it out.
Sean:	nám tông rāeng nâe nâe  châi mǎi	น้ำต้องแรงแน่ๆ ใช่ไหม	I’m sure the stream is very powerful, isn’t it?
Chai:	châi  láe chìt nám  dâi klāi kwà	ใช่ และฉีดน้ำได้ไกลกว่า	Yes, the extra force can pump the water very far.
Sean:	kô thòe  thâ yù klâi klâi chái khǎn kô yāng dâi  rao tog ao nám pai duai mai	ก็เถอะ ถ้าอยู่ใกล้ๆ ใช้ขัน ก็ยังได้ เราจะต้องเอาน้ำ ไปด้วยไหม	That’s true! But if someone is close by, we can even use a bowl. Do we have to take water along?
Chai:	mâi tông  thāngkān trīam wái hâi tām chùt tàng tàng	ไม่ต้อง ทางการเตรียมไว้ ให้ตามจุดต่างๆ	No need to. The organizers will supply water at various stations.
Sean:	dī chāng  tông sànùk nâe nâe	ดีจัง ต้องสนุกแน่ๆ	That’s great! It must be great fun!

Phût phāsǎ Thai Getting prepared for Songkran / trīam tūa lên sǒngkrān Are you ready for the fun and properly equipped for Thailand's famed 'Water Wars' festival? A shop has a large selection of Songkran gear. Along side all sorts of colourful modern components are necessaries for traditional revelers. – Phatrchai Prechaphanit The sanuk atmosphere of the Thai New Year celebrations - the Songkran Festival - has arrived. Hopefully you're ready for the water-drenched fun.   Traditional objects are also available, such as n?m ?p th?i (traditional Thai perfume) in various bottle sizes, perfumed white clay and other common things for religious rites are placed next to the multi-colored modern gear. It's a good idea to get ready for the celebrations well in advance. If you shop early, prices are negotiable and the selections are still wide. The conversation this week helps both the first-time and veteran revelers plan their festive gear, so they can make the best of their Songkran encounters.
