Eddie:	khūn pāi rûam kān chàlǒng sǎo chīng chá rǔe plào	คุณไปร่วมการฉลองเสา ชิงช้าหรือเปล่า	Did you join the celebration of the Giant Swing?
Sak:	mâi dâi pāi  phǒm tông thām-ngān  khūn sǒnchāi rûeang ní dûai rǒe	ไม่ได้ไป ผมต้องทำงาน คุณสนใจเรื่องนี้ด้วยเหรอ	No, I had work. You’re interested in this event, too, aren’t you?
Eddie:	sǒnchāi sì  pró sǎo chīng chá nî pēn sǎnyálâk sǎmkhān khǒng krūngthêp	สนใจสิ เพราะเสาชิงช้านี่ เป็นสัญลักษณ์สำคัญของ กรุงเทพ	Yes, I am interested because the Giant Swing is Bangkok’s main landmark.
Sak:	châi  sǎo chīng chá nî mī mā phróm phróm kàp krūngthêp lōei là	ใช่ เสาชิงช้านี่มีมาพร้อมๆ กับกรุงเทพเลยล่ะ	True! It came into existence right after the establishment of Bangkok.
Eddie:	chīng rǒe  ngán ān kào kô mī āyú mâk láeo sì	จริงเหรอ งั้นอันเก่าก็มีอายุ มากแล้วสิ	Really? So the old one must be very old!
Sak:	sǒng rói khwà pī  sâng khôen mûea pī sǒng sǎm sǒng chèt  nāi sàmai râtchákān thî nùeng  próm próm kàp thēwásàthǎn	สองร้อยกว่าปี สร้างขึ้นเมื่อ ปี 2327 ในสมัยรัชการที่ 1 พร้อมๆ กับเทวสถาน	More than two hundred years old. It was built in 1784 in the reign of King Rama I at the same time as Devasathan.
Eddie:	sàdāeng wâ sàtsànā hīndū mī rákthǎn nāi thāi mā nān láeo	แสดงว่าศาสนาฮินดูมีราก ฐานในไทยมานานแล้ว	That means Hinduism has been deep-rooted in Thailand.
Sak:	châi  nāi sàmǎi àyûttháyā kô mī sǎo chīng chá ná	ใช่ ในสมัยอยุธยาก็มีเสา ชิงช้านะ	Yes, there used to be a Giant Swing in Ayutthaya period.
Eddie:	ūe  sǎo chīng chá nî āo wái thām àrāi	อือ เสาชิงช้านี่เอาไว้ทำ อะไร	Um, what is the Giant Swing for?
Sak:	āo wái “ló chīng chᔠ sûeng pēn phíthī bōrān thāng sàtsànǎ phrām	เอาไว้ “โล้ชิงช้า” ซึ่งเป็นพิธี โบราณทางศาสนา พราหมณ์	For lo ching cha, which is an ancient Brahmin rite.
Eddie:	pháthī ní mī khwāmmǎi yàngrāi	พิธีนี้มีความหมายอย่างไร	What does this rite mean?
Sak:	pēn phíthī khôen pīmài khǒng sàtsànǎ phrām  sûeng pēn kān tônráp phrá ìsǔan	เป็นพิธีขึ้นปีใหม่ของ ศาสนาพราหมณ์ ซึ่งเป็น การต้อนรับพระอิศวร	It’s a new year rite for the Brahmin, which welcomes Shiva.
Eddie:	rǒe  mī phíthī kān wān nǎi  phǒm chà dâi pāi dū	เหรอ มีพิธีกันวันไหน ผม จะได้ไปดู	Ah. When is the rite? I’d like to watch.
Sak:	phíthī dâi yùt pāi nān láeo  tângtàe nāi rátchákān thî chèt  tàe dâi khào wâ chà mī kān rúefúen khôen mā mài ìk khráng	พิธีได้หยุดไปนานแล้ว ตั้ง แต่ในรัชกาลที่ 7 แต่ได้ข่าว ว่าจะมีการรื้อฟื้นขึ้นมาใหม่ อีกครั้ง	The rite had stopped during the reign of King Rama VII, but I’ve heard that it’s going to be revived.
Eddie:	dī sì  rāo chà dâi hěn sǎo chīng chá mī chīwît	ดีสิ เราจะได้เห็นเสาชิงช้า มีชีวิต	Good, so we’ll have a chance to see the Giant Swing in action.

Phût phāsǎ Thai he New Giant Swing / sǎo chīng chá mài First erected in 1784, the aging Rattanakosin's Giant Swing pillars were replaced by the new ones, which still symbolize prosperity and stability for Thais Crowds turn up at the Giant Swing to witness a ceremony to dismantle the old swing to make way for the new one. — Jetjaras na Ranong The Giant Swing has been Bangkok's colorful and spectacular symbol since it was constructed a few years after the birth of Rattanakosin era. We've seen the great dark-red structure stand gracefully but dormant for a long time. On September 12, thousands of people gathered at the Giant Swing ground in front of Bangkok City Hall to participate in the historic event as Their Majesties the King and Queen presided over the celebration ceremony of the new Giant Swing. In 2003, it was found that the Giant Swing had deteriorated beyond repair and the BMA decided to replace it with a new swing made from golden teak trees harvested from forests in Phrae province.
