probation (pro BAY shun)
The noun probation refers to a period of time when a person who has broken the law is under supervision rather than having to go to jail. Probation also can refer to a period of time when a person is being evaluated to see if that person is capable of doing a job.

    Motorists put on one-year probation for drunk driving will have to attend four traffic safety courses or go to jail, under a new regulation.
    In December he was sentenced to probation and community service.
    The judge sentenced him to three years in prison for violating his probation.
    Just a few more weeks and she would be finished with her probation and she was confident that she would remain with the company.

misleading (mis LEE ding)
The adjective misleading means that something gives the wrong idea or impression, that is, it causes a misunderstanding. The verb form is mislead.

    The Foreign Affairs Ministry has warned countries to keep their travel warnings reasonable to avoid misleading tourists.
    NATO officials gave conflicting, confusing and extremely misleading accounts of what caused the bombing error.
    Many members of the media accused the government spokesperson of giving false and misleading statements.
    The investors said they were misled by the company's exaggerated profit claims.

flagship (in KAR sa reit)
The noun flagship refers to the most important thing owned or produced by a particular organisation. It can also refer to the most important ship in a fleet of ships.

    Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPE) the listed flagship of the Charoen Pokphand agribusiness conglomerate, will invest US$22 million to buy a chicken processing company from an affiliate in Turkey.
    The US soft drink giant sells a number of products in China, from its flagship beverages to carbonated fruit drinks.
