Adisai `bought teachers' vote'

An election watchdog has filed a complaint against Education Minister Adisai Bodharamik for alleged violation of the electoral law.

The complaint, filed with the Election Commission, alleges that Mr Adisai had tried to win over the teachers and their support by cancelling their licence fee.

According to complainant Viroj Poonsuk, of Khon Thai Rak Chart network, a pollwatch group under P-Net, Mr Adisai issued the order not before but after the royal decree was issued calling the general election.

About 700,000 teachers across the nation stood to benefit from the revocation of the 500-baht fee.

The minister was also accused of violating a Teacher Council regulation.

The order had not been approved by the Teacher Council board when it was announced.
