Democrat
seats goal leaves PM unmoved
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has shrugged off the Democrat party's campaign target of winning 201 House seats, to keep his Thai Rak Thai party under check. He was confident his party would win more than half of the 500 House seats in the general election and be able to form the next government. Mr Thaksin also said it was not unusual for the Democrats to have its chief adviser Chuan Leekpai campaign hard in the South since Thai Rai Thai was hoping to gain many seats in the region, considered the Democrats' main bastion. He himself would campaign for votes in Trang when he had free time, Mr Thaksin said. Trang is Mr Chuan's home province. On Chart Thai deputy leader Chuwit Kamolvisit's description of Mr Thaksin and his Thai Rak Thai party as ''stingy millionaires'', he said conflicts during election campaigning were common. However, political collusion where parties agreed in advance to share House seats was unacceptable since people had the right and freedom to choose. |
