RACE TO PARLIAMENT
ANUCHA CHAROENPO
The Chart Thai party yesterday rolled out all 36 candidates that it will run in Bangkok, one in each constituency, on a platform of populist policies.
Deputy leader Korn Dabbaransi said the candidates would make themselves known to city voters soon through a series of public forums.
"They are well qualified and ready to work in the interests of Bangkok people," he said.
Mr Korn would not speculate on how many seats the party would win in the capital, saying he wanted to focus first on telling the public about policies.
These included the construction of more elevated train routes, development of IT and internet systems in schools, building at least 100,000 residential units a year for slum dwellers, and eradicating the drug problem.
Political observers said that among the party's candidates, former Bangkok MP Janista Liewchalermwong and Chamadol Hongsakula, brother of veteran politician Pavena Hongsakula, have a good chance of winning seats. Both candidates are running in a constituency which takes in Don Muang, Sai Mai and Bang Khen districts.
Gen Yutthasak Sasiprapha, who organises the party-list vote campaign, said while populist policies would improve the quality of life in Bangkok, he also wanted to promote sports activities.
Gen Yutthasak is president of the Olympic Committee of Thailand and top of the party's list for zone 6, covering Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan.
