Suvit vows to turn Khon Kaen into leading city

SUMETH WANNAPRUEK

Khon Kaen _ Puea Pandin leader Suvit Khunkitti has vowed to turn Khon Kaen province into a ''Suvit Buri'' to rival ''Banharn Buri'' if his party tops the general election and he is installed the prime minister. Mr Suvit believes that he too can bring prosperity and development on the scale once achieved by Chart Thai leader Banharn Silpa-archa in Suphan Buri.

Mr Suvit told Khon Kaen residents while campaigning yesterday that mega-infratructure development would only be possible in Khon Kaen if his party won the most House seats and he was made the next prime minister.

The contribution made by Mr Banharn in his home province Suphan Buri has assured the Chart Thai's continued domination of MP seats and local administrative bodies in the province dubbed ''Banharn Buri''.

Mr Suvit said the more often he met his constituents in Khon Kaen the more confident he was of their support. He believed his party's policy was the most appealing to voters in the Northeast and saw himself with an outside chance of becoming the next prime minister.

''If Mr Banharn could develop Suphan Buri in all areas, impressing people so much that they couldn't help calling the province Banharn Buri, why can't I convert Khon Kaen into Suvit Buri?''
