This is a revised version of that first printed in the January 2008 edition of Khor Khon magazine. Current translation from Daet Chao Rorn Keun Kwa Ja Nang Jip Ka-fae (It’s too hot this morning to sit sipping coffee in the sun), Pajonphai Publishing, Bangkok, March 2011. Kimarz extended a long life to the old woman for her to warn her progeny in a time of danger.
