Schoolchildren get creative about ways to tackle global warming

Animation is an engaging and enjoyable format to work with and can involve everything from stop motion and traditional cell drawing to computer generation and even newer cutting-edge media technologies. It's also a great vehicle to advance young people's understanding of storytelling and the sequencing of ideas, giving them an outlet for their creative energy while honing their technical skills and their ability to work in close collaboration with others.

With this in mind, plus the additional goal of getting out the message that we Thais need to do more to conserve finite resources, the Ministry of Energy organised a nationwide competition for youngsters at the end of last year, challenging them to create short, 3D animated features on the theme, "Stop Global Warming With Your Energy Ranger".

A total of 16 secondary schools entered teams in the contest, all vying for three Energy Animation Awards, and later today, during a ceremony at the ministry's headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, the five teams that made it through to the finals will discover which has been judged the overall winner.
