As Fine Grocers, John and James began supplying the city's elite with the finest food and whiskies & wines from their high-class emporium at 13 King Street, Aberdeen. Business was good and as supplier to Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle, just to the west of Aberdeen, they received the first of many Royal Warrants in 1843. Quickly, their reputation extended far beyond Aberdeen and they became known as arbiters of good taste and suppliers to the great and the good - earls & dukes; generals and admirals and European Royalty.
