Re: new visa rules for foreigners

If you are here long term, go the Permanent Resident route, you don't need to be retired, don't have to have Thai wife or children. It maybe expensive but worth it in the long term. You can register on the Tabian Bahn don't have to visit immigration evey 90 days. Also useful the Thai immigration le...

Re: new visa rules for foreigners

I'm also unaware of any form of proof of address being required (landlord letter/rent contract etc) for a retirement visa. The only time that I had to produce this was when I first opened a bank account here (Siam Commercial), which would be the same as in most countries (i.e. UK requires something...

Re: new visa rules for foreigners

Chalong wrote Extract.. A farang can own a house, but cannot own the land, which of course is why condominiums are deemed as 'freehold' as owners of these units do not own the land. A common way around this is to buy land/house separately, with land in wife/gf name (assuming she's Thai of course), a...

Re: Baht too strong - urgently needs freedom to float

I think the GBP will hold out for years to come. It is not as if the US$, and Euro are the only currencies. MOST of the World including big payers are outside these two currencies. Look at some of the EU countries such Ireland and the new Eastern countries they are in the Euros and in serious sh*t, ...

Re: Baht too strong - urgently needs freedom to float

Dave if you look here http://www.tititudorancea.com/z/gbp_to_thb_exchange_rates_british_pound_thai_baht.htm At the 30 day chart, you will see that the Pound seems stable around the 50 mark, plus or minus 1 Baht. I agree one can see clear correlations between the dollar fluctuations and also stock m...

Re: Baht too strong - urgently needs freedom to float

Maybe so Ian, But the GBP after an increase to 1.47 to the US $ 3 days ago continues its fall again 1.43 to the US $ dollar. Baht essentially mirrors the US $ ups and downs as you and other have previously said. These big daily fluctuations are driving me mad. It take me 3 ATM withdrawals to get my ...

Re: Pollution

My understanding is that Chung Mai's main problems are not to do with Carbon Dioxide (or methane  ) but the size of particulates in the air - which is indeed pollution. "Smog" we called it in the UK. Many decades ago (which Ian, I and other London based older persons will remember) th...

Re: Best place inThailand for Family Trip

Yeah my fault guys & gals. Thanks for pointing the motive out to me :). I never bother to read the bits at the bottom (will try to remember do so in future). Too trusting and naive (story of my life). Anyway, I came to Thailand 3 years ago and had never visited South East Asia not Thailand befor...

Re: Market segmentation or price discrimination

:D Sean regret we disagree on this one as what is said is only "on the surface" I find what has been said by "bitchnomore" and particularly how it has been said as a xenophobic, bordering on racist, (and by the number of slashes I assume unpleasant) short sighed rant IMHO 2.) Go ...
