Re: If law is the law

Hello Chris-Th,
It’s almost comical, isn’t it? It’s like a bunch of lizards trying to be chameleons by putting on iguana skins.

Re: If law is law

Hello Villager, A logistical challenge? Yes. Doable? Yes. A nightmare? I don't think so. This is not to say preliminary study and such should not be engaged. In the end, this might even create jobs... With respect to the number you've mentioned (500), it is likely that number include repeat offenses...

Re: If law is law

Hello Villager, The bike not being "fully" owned by the offender should be of no significance. It is still the register name's responsibility. If it is registered to the operator or the parents of such operator, that is an issue that the registered needs to take up with the finance company...

Re: If law is law

Confiscate the bikes for a designated period during which the owner is given the opportunity to rectify the situation in order to secure the bike's return in addition to appropriate fines and penalties. Failure to secure the bike's return within that period results in either public auction of the bi...

Re: If law is law

Hello Villager,
Perfect example of the bike owner "not caring enough". As stated, if he/she doesn't care that the bike will break or a new bike will be purchased to repeat more of the same, it doesn't matter if that can of oil is 2 bahts or free of charge. Apathy!

Re: If law is law

Hello Villager, As suggested in my response to Stilljustbrowsing, there is an element of face saving in all this. But more of it has to do with apathy. I too have experienced the same identical reaction as what you've described, perhaps even more of it. As stated, the first challenge is not to imple...

Re: If law is law

Hello Stilljustbrowsing, Valid observation and point. I suppose this is an area where we may differ a little in our opinions. Some things are indeed difficult to implement for the reasons you've indicated. But proving it to be difficult is neither substantive nor necessary when the reasons for that ...

Re: If law is law

Hello Stilljustbrowsing, Yes, agreed that some habits of apathy have become "customs". There is a need to reverse this and it would prove difficult to do if those in "the know" continue to contibute to that apathy. Daunting task, yes. But the alternative is not all that attractive.

Re: If law is law

Hello Villager, The police (along with most) already know. A good start would be for the government and the people to "demand" that the police enforces the law that has been on the books for years, as you've stated, or turn in the uniform. Again, going back to what Sardines has shared here...

Re: If law is law

Hello Villager, How to ride the bike is not the problem. It's enforcing the laws on how to ride the bike with safety of yourself and others in mind that is. Shouldn't need an extra 200 billion bahts to enforce existing laws. I think the term you are looking for is "situational awareness"....
