Re: Tourism what are they thinking?

Sometime in the eighties all banks decided to increase their earnings by charging fees such as a closing your account fee, a fee to transfer your money from your savings account into your checking account to cover a check. The ATM fees are just another way they use to make money. Just before my last...

Re: Mercedes bus stop killer gets 10 years

The court ruled Kanpitak was mentally afflicted with bipolar disorder, and reduced his prison sentence to two years suspended. He remains on bail pending an appeal. So he is still not in jail. And probably still driving. And someone is still dead.

Re: Three Most Important Words.

As most already know Thai is a tonal language. English has 2 vowel sounds, short and long, excluding diphthongs. A diphthong is a single syllable word with 2 tones. Thai has 5 sounds for each vowel . They are normal, high, low, raising (like the end of a question) and falling. The diphthong "fi...

Re: How about your opinion with Tourist Guide in Thailand?

Bangkok can be overwhelming, especially to someone not used to a large city. And there is a lot to see in Bangkok, nearby Bangkok and Thailand in general. I have been to Thailand twice and I will visit again. A good tour guide is welcome. There are many tours offered so think about what would make y...

Re: Mercedes bus stop killer gets 10 years

Is Mr. Ham in jail yet? There is a basic set of ethics involved here that needs to supersede all of the influence the rich have over politicians and judges. That is the value of a human life outweighs influence. The fact that Mr. Ham was too impatient to wait to get around the bus and run over peopl...

Re: Farang cannot know Thai-ness

Define Thai-ness. A Farang who has read books and spent a lot of time here can learn. What about a Farang that was born here and lived here most of his/her life? I have a brother 1 year younger than me. He is intelligent and has known me his whole life. There are things about me he will never unders...

Re: Elephants in Bkk

A big problem is the elephants getting hit by cars or trucks. The mahouts then abandon the wounded elephant and it becomes someone else's problem. The city is no place for an elephant. The mahouts also starve the elephant and sell food to the tourists to feed it. How about fining the mahouts? I like...

Re: Multiple Farang Deaths in Phuket

Phuket is the Crime Capital of Asia, by far the worst possible place for a tourist, foreign or Thai to visit. Murder, Rape and Assault are common place and no nationality is spared. Ouch. I am planning a trip to Thailand in a few months. Phuket was on my list of places I might visit. Now I will pic...

Re: Do you speak English Khun Noy?

Being rich is relative to where you stand. I live in the US. I am not rich. When I looked down from the BTS Phloen Chit station I saw people living in a hole in the ground where a sky scrapper building was going to be built. They lived in corrugated metal shacks without running water. I think to mys...

Re: Bangkok prices in general - how far does the Baht go?

My apologies for not seeing this forum sooner. During my first trip to Thailand I was frequently asked if this was my first trip to Thailand. The best answer to give a strangers is "no." They are looking for someone to overcharge. This is especially true with cab drivers who want to take y...
