Re: Double pricing system in Thailand

Different prices are annoying. I have lived in Thailand for many years and I am now a permanent resident. No more visas etc for the rest of my life. But I am still a foreigner when it comes to parks etc. Two weeks ago I visited Panom Rung temple in Burirum. I showed the ticket lady my permanent resi...

Re: From a Thai Woman to You -- All Farangs

Thank you Silaworld. You probably have a good point there. At my age, 60, I am probably living in the past and the Catholic church has become more modern. Also it seems that the Catholic church laws vary from country to country.

Re: From a Thai Woman to You -- All Farangs

Not all Western men can marry divorced Thai women. Take my situation. I was married, once only, to a lovely Thai lady for 28 years. She died from cancer 3 years ago. I am now 60 years old, still fit, working and active in Northeast Thailand where I am a permanent resident. People ask me why I am not...

Re: From a Thai Woman to You -- All Farangs

Statistics in Thailand show that there are more females born than males. If I remember correctly, for every 100 males born, 105 females are born. Then there are all the men that become monks and the increasing number of men who are gay. Combine that with the men who want to remain bachelors. No wond...

Re: Am I missing something here? Red vs PM

Here where I work in Ubon Ratchathani, the red shirts have blocked main bridges across the Mun river separating the city and its main surburb, Warin Chamrab. The area around the Saladaeng (governors place etc) is full of red shirts. Last night they riddled two branches of the Bangkok Bank with bulle...

Re: new visa rules for foreigners

Getting my permanent residency was a long process. It began in 2001 with getting the all the necessary documents together that the Immigration said I needed. I was applying under the cheapest category-married to a Thai with a dependent-our son. We had lived in NZ from 1980 to 1994 and returned to Ub...

Re: Why do ONLY foreigners get special promotion?

One of the previous posts complained that as a foreigner one couldn't buy a house, car and not even get a credit card. i am a Kiwi living living and working in Ubon Ratchathani for 15 years. I don't own my house (registered in my son's name) but I do own my car and pickup and also two other work pic...

Re: How Chinese own a house in Phuket?

You can definitely TRY to become a Thai citizen or Thai national. Go along to your nearest immigration and ask for the details on how to become a Thai national. If you can't speak Thai you have no chance. Your Thai speaking and writing ability have to be up to about Grade 6 standard. You have to rev...

Re: new visa rules for foreigners

I got my residency in 2004. They give you 1 year first and thereafter renewal at 5 year intervals (like a drivers licence). I first applied in December 2001 and it came through in August 2004. Well worth the wait. The police will post me a letter one month before the expiry date in August to remind ...

Re: new visa rules for foreigners

I have read with great interest all the comments on difficulties of obtaining visas and opening bank accounts. I have lived in Thailand for many years (I'm a Kiwi) and the only difficulties I have encountered with banks is CLOSING an account! For visas I never had any problems but I hated the 90 day...
