Re: Farang cannot know Thai-ness

My Thai wife's friends won't let me sit with them because I speak reasonable Thai. Wonder why? Thainess perhaps. If it is not fit to be said, then don't say it. Something else for Thais to understand about most western 'falangs'.

Re: Farang cannot know Thai-ness

Yes chmiroau, same problem different wife. They do not seem to learn from past experience. Take my blocked drain for example. Five visits by the Thai 'plumber' resulted in exactly the same thing being done even though it was obvious that it wasn't fixing the problem. In the end I did it myself. (It ...

Re: Thailand so beautiful but so deadly

Maybe hawaiiman. Yes, Thailand is a great place to live if you happen to be a 'farang' or a fully paid up member of the 'phoo yaai' but do you never stop to think about the lives of the 'phoo lek'. The only things that I can see as deadly are the complete lack of discipline on Thailands roads (and p...

Re: Is Farang an f word?

Many kids in my wife's village shout 'Yak" and run off crying when I appear. Suppose I am to them. Not worried what they call me personally. 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.'

Re: Farang cannot know Thai-ness

Dear nok77, It is a good thing you don't live in USA, UK, or many countries in western Europe as what you have written could be considered racist. Some Thais think they can never be wrong, think that 'farangs' are always wrong, and see the graft and corruption as a normal way of doing business.

Re: Tourism what are they thinking?

Rab, You do not have to have a bank account to get money on a foreign card. Just don't use the ATM. Go into the bank (I use Bangkok Bank as they have the best exchange rates) armed with your card and passport and ask for 100,000 baht. It costs me nothing at the bank and £4.50 from my UK bank. This i...

Re: Back to court

Ah Drake, so it's the good ole USA is it. Been there but didn't fall foul of your justice system luckily. As for UK prosecuting people for protecting themselves, I agree with you but what is the alternative. Wild west justice. Hang 'em high. As for Mr. Gadfly; well he's just another naughty boy. See...

Re: Ms. Yingluck - Puea Thai Leadership role?

Yes, think we are Dutchboy. Always look on the bright side though. The value of the Thai baht will probably go down against the USD, Euro and GBP.

Re: Back to court

Are you classing South American countries as 'western?' As for the UK courts, ask Pr. Anne if she got off the speeding charge. Ask Geoffrey A.,a prominent writer, who spent time in jail for ly ing in court. Ask Jonathan A., a Conserative politician, who did much the same and was sent down. I cannot ...
