Sell government TV & radio to private enterprise

Sell government TV & radio to private enterprise

Postby pquinlan on Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:54 am

A simple proposition:

ALL Thai government owned TV and radio stations/channels/networks should be sold to private enterprise, or closed down, with the possible exception of one genuinely independently managed and quality TV/Radio/Web broadcaster, similar to NPR in USA or BBC or ABC (Oz).

Any supporters or dissenters?

Well to add some context, according to Wilkepedia, "....given the fact that all the existing radio stations belong to the Royal Thai Government, military or security agencies, the issue of free speech or civil right has never been challenged or tested in those "main stream" radio stations. For television, all TV stations are either owned by government, military or subject to concession agreements which give de facto censoring power to the government as an owner."

So, I suggest that while in principal what you suggest would be a good thing, it is one of those advances that only a revolution of the kind that I don't see coming even on the most distant horizon, could bring about.

But stranger things have happened. A year ago who would have expected Aung San Suu Kyi to be touring the world in mid 2012?
