You and I are in the same boat. Do you prefer to row from the right or the left?

Lets get something straight here.
How many Thai's are abused by foreigners?
How many Thai's are abused by Thai's.?
Exploiting an economic advantage is not the same as abuse. it becomes abuse if force is involved.
I found a great site

I may be wrong, but I believe if the same situation happened in my country of Australia, as has happened here in Thailand then there would be a huge uproar. Millions of tourists coming to my country creating a massive sex industry. Old foreigners walking around hand in hand with unfortunate 20 year old local girls who have to be in the sex industry to support their families. Foreigners on forums similar to this commenting about how locals should run their country. Saying that the locals are lucky that they are there. I can understand why some Thais might be disenchanted.

Jeffro you are the only westerner that is making scene here the rest of then I cannot believe their attitudes to towards Thais and their culture.
Thais people have said the same thing too they don’t want to keep going down the paths of bar girls and prostitution in this country I think there is a time for change before it too late.
I don’t see the western culture going this way of bar girls and why should Thais too if they like this type of active then adopt this in their own country and see how far they get with the western girls.
Some are so proud to say they are supporting bar girl and how great it is the fact is before the invasion of western men these girl from the villages where surviving long before these men came in their lives.
Since 1997 Pattaya sex town has grown from 2000 working to now over 10000 plus all looking for a ATM machine and don’t tell they are all not educated because those days have change since the Vietnam war when the Gi was station near Pattaya.
Tell all the girl in Thailand who work in petrol stations, shopping centre and food joints with a minimum pay of maybe 6000 to 10000 baht a month versus western men dishing out over 15000 baht plus a month For doing nothing.
Even a thai girl who works in the government may be lucky to get 10000 to 13000 tops
And if the bar girl is lucky to hook 2 western boyfriend well jack pot time
Now tell if I am wrong here on this

No sail or speed boats at the moment, but I'm sure we could find somewhere.
What's almost sad is that these so-called "educated elites" don't have a clue as to how much of a minority they really are, and how much they are seriously outnumbered by the really true Thai, and when push comes to shove, they're going to find their backs up against the wall with no where to run. Does the French Revolution ring any bells???
Someone, and I apologize for not remembering who, brought out the fact that the majority of troops are ISSAN, and that if things reach the critical point of military intervention, or a military "crackdown", the Generals may find themselves standing all alone, because their troops will refuse to kill their own mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, etc. If/when that happens, the "elite" aren't going to feel so elite any longer.

His now more than 250 years old thesis about: LEARNING BY DOING is as relevant as when they where written.
For 8 days a few thousand paid rebel under the cover of Democracy took 350.000 tourists as hostage. How much will this pirate behavior cost to the big, big majority of the population representing the real country of smile?
Let all of us foreigners living in Thailand, X those not fulfilling the prevailing legal regulations fixed for all sorts of Permits, from Work to Retirement, take one month of holiday abroad. We leave all Thai we daily take care of, close all foreign owned businesses, understandably including Chevron having "next to full control" of production and refining of oil and gas. " No, we will not use Thai Air, but all other means of transport for our collective one month of "Foreigners living in Thailand's holiday abroad. Sorry, difficult under your heading to undertake a better test on what we contribute with to Thailand than testing it through our behavior, and at the same time their "Learning by (we) doing." The big question The Thai Governing body ( at present difficult to say!) will have to ask themselves: Shall we let this foreigners in again?

Look mate, foreigners coming to Thailand have not started the sex business in this country. It was here much before the first big noses got here. Sex in Thailand is an old shoe, do not the Thai men like it as much as the foreigners? Do not many important Thai men have their “mia noi”? Is it not a kind of status symbol to have one here? I have been ask more then once, why I, as a “rich” farang do not have one, and they could not belive me saying, “pom me mia condiu”, I have only one wife.
You speak about tourism numbers and disenchanted Thais. Well I do not think it has any thing to do with the numbers but the behaving of each one of them and us. Tourism in Thailand is important, sex tourism a part of it, and that is the way it was and hopefully one day will be again.
And nobody here is saying to kick us out, Just-1-voice who started this topic was just rhetoric.

It was me who wrote those lines about the Generals and their guns. I see you keep yourself busy here as well. It has not been too long ago since I posted those lines. Good to have people like you among others, sharing here in this forum. I think I quite like you and I could imagine to go on a boat trip with you. Tough, I would have to leave my darling offshore, as she does not like boats too much and tends to get seasick. Not the best swimmer neither.

You can be a so called sextourist and still behave like an educated, reasonable person. Just treat the ladies with the respect they deserve. Treat them as human beings and not as a ware. The one of us who never paid for sex may throw the first stone. Is it not us, well not you Oz as your white country is not that old, who call the sex business the oldest trade in the world?

I have nothing against the girls that ply the trade. But like the drug industry, you can make a quick buck but lose your soul in the process. How many prostitutes were glad that they were prostitutes in the long run. It's normally the knobs in the background that make the real money.
The number of girls that work in the industry is out of proportion in Thailand. It's not healthy for the country. I know this topic was just rhetoric but be prepared for a backlash in the future from Thai's who have watched quietly in the background and have had enough. I know Thai men have been a part of it as well, but If you can change things for the better then you should. It is time to replace the sex industry with something healthier. We wouldn't put up with it in our countries.
