If you go to Burma, people sit around in coffee shops talking about politics all day.
What good has it done them? They are going backwards.
Has politics improved here over the last 40 years?
I am not saying yes or no, but would someone like Thaksin be a leader in another country that you can think of? I think only here can they be deserving of such a great one.

I am beginning to change my views on Thaksin...(a little) My lastest is: RUN, THAKSIN, RUN... Be FREE!
RUN WITH THE BIG DOGS....OR STAY ON THE PORCH! (inside Thailand)
Attempts to bring him back is attempts to put him on a leash.
Thaksin currently is a majority of ONE. He doesn't need a moral majority inside Thai telling him who he is or how to be,.
1 person = 1 point of view A majority in a democracy can be a party of one.
What's the point of returning to Thailand if he can't be free?
Where he is NOW is FREE.

I have a really bad feeling that he is waiting for a certain event to happen. When it does, I think he will try to come back.
He has the "choice" at the moment of living in excile with his "diminished wealth", or coming back here and facing the consequences.
Where he is, therefore is of no real consequence. What he is plotting for the future is far more important.
If I had his wealth, I would not be playing politics, philanthropy maybe, but this guy strikes me as someone who is just "power-crazy".

He's currently negotiating his surrender. About to make peace with current regime, for a reduced sentence and bribed with his own assets. He has until Jan 4 today to file his defense in assets seizure case. If not, he forfeits. Surrender one way out....Red shirts fight on and stage a coup, but too unorganized for that.
Run Thaksin Run and forfeit frozen thai assets is what I'd do, and vote not to become a porch pooch on a short leash.

Thaksin deadline moved up until Jan 20.to mount defense. Depending on what he does, will determine much in Thai politics.
We'll see.

Hello Veto,
How do you think this government came to be? How do you think “all” past governments that were dominated by the democrat came to be? Do you think buying votes only happen in the villages?

So Thai’s democracy is bought votes and rigged elections. What do you think should be done next? Continue to harp on Thaksin and take focus away from efforts to help this country achieve democracy?

Veto wrote: My family from issan so I know. Sure they the majority, but doesn't mean they can drive.

My family “is” Issan and they can be “taught” to drive. I “am” Issan and I can fly a plane. What’s your point?

Veto wrote: So the majority bet on the wrong horse. Thaksin lost and on the run. What don't you understand?

The majority bet on the horse that brought what was promised. Thaksin did not lose. He was “forced” out. What part of that do you not understand?

Veto wrote: Just because you didn't get to change the constitution and rewrite history. I think it's a case of buyer's remorse.

History was already re-written in 1997. This current constitution is nothing but the old traditional power base taking back what they always had prior. Amending the constitution is neither unique nor pro or con anything or anyone. That is if you think the constitution should speak for “all” and not just for the traditional power base?

Veto wrote: You bought into this Thaksinnomics...bought out democracy and it didn't work.

If you understand what Thaksinomics refers to, you would not have mentioned it in the context that you just did. I believe the current government has adopted their policy straight out of Thaksinomics?

Veto wrote: When this current gov't becomes tyrannical(IF) I will be the first one leading the charge against them.

This current government is the direct result of a coup and is supported by the coup makers. How tyrannical is a coup in your view?

Veto wrote: Thaksin maybe was good once but not now, democracy or not, matters little when you lost.

Thankin is no angel. But there is a democratic legacy that has resulted from his being in the scene. Again, it is no longer about Thaksin. Democracy or not should definitely matter when the win / loss is by the a non-democratic fashion, regardless of who won of lost.

Veto wrote: I know this forum constantly degenerates to red-shirt/yellow-shirt mentality. Out with the old and in with the new...Happy New Year, everyone! Remember Land of Smiles and don't be so serious...

Yes, it does. But please take note of how it usually gets started. I, for one, have not mention any colors in any of my discussions with you. The same cannot be said about you. It is precisely out with the old and in with the new that should be taking place in Thailand’s politics. What has just happened is the complete opposite. I take it seriously. Sorry, it is a serious issue for me and my country..

Notice according to above the court again accommodating this person by giving endless extensions.
Such a joke.

The farangs are scratching their heads trying hopelessly to figure things out. Meanwhile they think the system is better than in their home country. Because they are the loser, the bottom of the barrel,in their home country and cannot get the girl. Just a complaining old cow.
