The ceiling was "sound-proofed" (IE, shut up), perhaps it was the "owner/s" who were "fire-proofed"! (IE, couldn't be burned)

Thanks Voice, copied your No. already!
Readig most recent reports, the police condemed the building in 2004. The owner objected and took the matter to court, enabling the place to function! It says the place was registered as an eating house, not a nightclub?????

The "coincidence" of fire on the last night of operation at the "last minute" seems to me to be so surreal that there must have been an "outside" hand at play. (probably good I can not be on any "jury" here!)

Hey Still J&B, sure the fire-proofed owner did not \\ //// the sound proofed ceiling with enough highly burnable liquid, to cash in from insurances after selling to the condo developers? Hey just an accident. And they made sure it would happen, handing out all those firecrackers. Who wanted to move out the old equipment anyways, just a lot of work. Easier this way. More efficient and makes more money, doesn’t it? Some people died, would they really care or would they go for the “easy” way out? This whole thing stinks miles away against the wind. But let us see what the authorities come forward with. The chief of police may be the owners cousin or brother in law. Just an accident and sorry? Makes me feel very sad, this Thailand, so what, tiT, take it or leave it.

Again, sorry if somebody affected should read this, but it is not just daily and very sad live in Thailand?

And Still J&B, I am macpaco69, in case you want to add me to your Skype list. Had a great chat with Voice today, can recommend it.

Over 60 dead
Over 200 injured
The business was operating illegally as a bar instead of restaurant as read its permits.
It was filled with over 2-1/2 times what the capacity was rated.
The insurance policy had already expired
No working exit signs over the doors

The list goes on and on, and the only person who has been arrested so far is one of the owners. The charge against him? Allowing minors to enter.

Wow, stillbrowsing, a 460 people food place? Can not imagine the food to be to good then.

Seriously, no idea, never been to places like this, never will go in the future.

How many were in there? Thai style I would guess a thousand people?

Yea, general reports say "about one thousand" people were present at the time. They also say it was a "Hi-so" club??? (for who I can't imagine)

Seems like the big cover up is starting already. First a source inside Metropolitan Police Bureau says, that it was registered as a night-time food shop, suddenly it is;

“Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Jongrak Chuthanont said the owner of Santika on Ekamai road applied for an operating licence in 2004, but the request was rejected because construction was unfinished at the time.

The owner then asked the Administrative Court to temporarily approve the operation, which it did.

Deputy city clerk Wanwilai Phromlakhano said the pub building received a construction permit when it was built in 2003. However, approval of the operating licence rested with police, who were in dispute with the owner of the building. Ms Wanwilai did not elaborate.”

One day it is said that “It could not register as an entertainment venue in 2003 after City Hall enforced zoning in Bangkok”, but today suddenly they had a temporarily aprovement for operation.

But even more shocking news, NO INSURANCE since 4 month, but “Owner Wisuk Setsawat and others responsible for the Santika pub, which caught fire on Thursday causing the loss of 59 lives, will face legal action for admitting underage revellers, letting its insurance lapse and not having an operating licence.”

So the typical slap on the hand and… Now we know at least why the police ruled out arson from the beginning, no insurance. I just wonder, how did the police know since the beginning?

“Santika pub owner Wisuk Setsawat, was hospitalized but police said his whereabouts were not immediately known.”

Sure, and I will win the grand slam this year.

Fireworks the reason for the fire. Probably, they will blame the guests of the club at the end and make them responsible for the accident but no other heads will roll. This is Thailand. Problem solved and let us turn page.

P.S. Last year there was this important funeral and most in the country were mourning the lost. But I do not remember reading anything about condolocences from high up. Maybe I just missed it. If not, well, very sad then and no more words needed…
