The Media

The recent Nation reports on breaking News: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakin ... ay-Thaksin

US consider whether to ban entry of runaway Thaksin.
The United States is considering whether to ban fugitive ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra from entering the country, PM's personal spokesman Thepthai Saenpong. (Note this part I highlighted in Red, it did not mentioned the word “Said" but only the name and the title of the person. So what it is, did he say it or did he not?)

With the content:

The information came after Japan banned Thaksin from entering the country (from who, it did not say) as he is convicted of corruption and is sentenced to two years in prison.
UK became the first country that blacklisted Thaksin who escaped the punishment and wandered to many countries.

And that’s’ it… So, is this report true or was it made up since it didn’t mention any officials said anything or any other led sources that can confirm this so called breaking news?

Yeah, tell me I’m criticizing them because they threw me out of their Blog but am I not telling you the facts? Did anyone read any information about it in the Bangkok Post or CNN or BBC or CNBC up to this moment 20:49 8th of February as at the time this forum is posted? Well, I couldn’t find a single word about it….

Let’s forget about what The Nation reports and look at the main issue on this one. Does the Media itself not responsible of what they report? How can one simply just write something out without indicating whether the official source had said it or did not and call it breaking news? Where is that professionalism that they‘re suppose to have, do they not have the responsibility to the readers who buys their newspaper or click into their Web-site?

Newspapers being Bias at times favoring their own political liking is understandable but in a way that might stir up unrest in an already deeply divided country reporting a news without solid back-ups or indication, isn’t it a bit too much? I sincerely hope the media will live up to what they’ve learned of being a professional journalist and performed their work honestly and professionally.

I think this topic is already covered.

Webmaster...can you "Merge Threads" with 'The Conspiracy Grows, USA may Join'?

Although I don't think either topic title is particularly apt...Rumour Control may be more appropriate!

Hi prommee_ne,

I think the other forum and this one is looking at the case at a totally different angle, I'm talking about the media and that one is talking about something else, so what was covered? The comments? I think it should allow the public reader to decide. Let them be the judge and not the Web Master...How's that sound?

I have to support Lalida on this one. This is more about etics of the press, than it is about Japanese visa regulations.

The press has the responsibillity of distributing news and opinions. If they distribut incorrect, or "doctored" information, then they do not deserve to be a news service. Here is (another) interesting definition:

"Misinformation is false or inaccurate information that is spread unintentionally. It is distinguished from disinformation by motive in that misinformation is simply erroneous, while disinformation, in contrast, is intended to mislead.[1]"

You can easily find the information that the Japanese FM informed the Thai visitors, that according to Japanese visa regulations, a jail sentence of one year or more (even a suspended one) can prevent you from getting a visa to Japan. (That would even include a Thai politician that get a 1 year suspended jail sentence for libel!!!). They also informed that the (possible) restriction was in force from the day the Thai court handed down the sentence last year.

So what is "Japan bans Thaksin from entering the country"??? MISinformation or DISinformation (or simply lack of skills????).

Apologies...but I think more than one example should have been outlined in the original post so that the likes of i.diots (me) do not jump to the wrong conclusion about the discussion.

The media has a difficult job...informing the masses without invoking the wrath of officials...more so in a Country where LM is thrown around all too easily. To condemn the "media" over a single report by a single paper is a little harsh...better to deal with that on an individual basis in my view.

Yes Lalida the media does play an inportant part in the the way people think, be fiction or non fiction. I am in the US at the moment and have not heard any official word on Thaksin but I do believe he would have a hard time gaining entry until all his baggage is resolved.
Lalida I like the name for a friend of mine her name is Alida.

Hi Voice, with respect , as Lalida is Thai and lives here I would think it prudent of her not to enter her opinion on this subject at this moment in time , i,m sure you will understand the point i,m trying to make.
