Police A Go Go
Re: Police A Go Go
We are told by so many "when in Rome, etc....." So we must be doing that which could be considered wrong by some, er... right! Right?

Re: Police A Go Go
After ten years we are on pretty good terms...every village party (New Year, Songkran etc) we hire a mobile Police Jail...stick any offending youths in it to sober up for the night before being picked up by their parents in the morning. Very few youths are put in there nowadays (always one)...but I nearly got the village headman and my wife in there this year...just for fun. (Early release money goes to the Waht)
As an aside, the Sergeant had his new deputy sacked two years ago for calling me "it"...whilst a guest at our house. Admittedly, he was after an excuse to get rid of him (non local and too young)., but it made me feel even more welcome in the community.
Ian...you just have to move North East!

Promee, thank you for making me laugh tonight. Your post is the most serious, sensible, and funny, that I have seen here in a long time (if ever) and no, I m not being funny this time! Brilliant solution.

In reality it means if the village boss calls the police they arrive in a couple of hours, if I call they arrive within 10 minutes. it also means that the locals know my home is not to be messed with, particularly important when my gf is alone because I am back in England for a few months. it means the amphetamine using youths on motorbikes no longer hang around my village. It means drunks don't use my side passage as a toilet. It means the card school has moved to the bottom of the village so I am not disturbed at midnight by excited shouts.
All the local police know me, I have visited some of their homes and families, when their children have been ill I have helped with little gifts.
Now a first time Farang might see this as corruption, I just see this as hiring a security guard, indeed they will turn up even if not on duty when I call. They get a perk, and I get security and peace of mind, we are both happy with this arrangement. Best of all, when there is a neighbour problem, my gf does not nag me, she nags the police
do they report twice a day at the door?

Thanks!...the post was meant to be serious...in a funny sort of way...guess you are on my wavelength.
Others,
The Police Jail we hire costs us 1,500 Baht a time, it includes 8 policemen (half are village policeman and half are Tambon). The first time it arrived in the village was the best...everyone was on best behaviour in case of being escorted there. Degenerated a bit over the next couple of years...then when it was found to be serious and Parents escorted youths home (in shame)...it became the place not to be put in...always one...as I said but very rarely do we have trouble in the village any more.
I have heard a lot about the Police on this forum...and a lot of rumours in our village. So far I have only seen "Birthday Money barriers"...which I drive into the police station and buy a beer or two... Private money making...in which my wife asked for the "boss" and got an apology and a sacked policeman...and legitimate road offences (my wife was caught speeding and had to go to the Main police station and pay the fine).. Are the Cenral and South Central areas so much more corrupt?...Or are the people there corrupt...?
I wonder sometimes...how many people have been to the NE on this forum?...I mean Sakohn Nakohn, and 100km around it...(does not include Udon or Nong Khai but does include Nakhon Panohm down to Mukdahahn)
Not too many I suspect...
...and the ones that have are probably not complaining in the same way...

The police in Phuket are probably the most corrupt, as someone else saidIt's shakedown time for locals and treble for farangs

Spent some time in Seka - loved it
I cannot answer this question but I can offer a clue, my local area has no respect for the police and the police know it. This creates a "them and us" attitude, fertile soil for "stings" and corruption. If the police are not integrated into the community this divide will always exist.
We see this in England with the demise of the "neighbourhood Bobby".

In Phuket the ungodly had the bright idea of dressing up as policemen to extort drinks, meals and money.![]()
Makes their job a lot easier - wonder why
Reminds me of convergent evolution.
