both your speculations are wrong

So when new people make a post they don't return in my opinion because they are immediately hit with some comment that is intended to berate them or 'correct' them, not discuss. New people come on the board because for whatever reason they have something to say and are not here just to say something.
Bottom line to me is two-fold: that new members are being driven away - not by the WM, and secondly, many members of this board need to be on a chat screen like Skype because the concept of a 'major' newspaper forum (which I assume is to discuss issue and news centered in this area, internationally, and also topics such as 'living here', where the best restaurants are, immigration issues, etc.) really does not fit what you are wanting to do here.
Personally, I have lots of comments to make about the news and other issues here. I don't because I honestly feel I will get one or two direct replies and by the end of the first page the comments marginally relate to the original topic and by the third page you can't even tell what the topic is anymore.

Framed, thanks for putting it in terms I did not want to use. The other great line you read is the threat that they will leave because their posts get deleted. Oh the horror! What would we ever do then? We wouldn't know how to act or, dare I say it, how to control ourselves!

Puzzled,
I suggest you overlook, ignore those who berate, correct, not discuss.
You can always remind people of the topic heading, the subject being discussed and ask that your question or statement be addressed.
If you keep getting berated, etc, I suppose it’s not worth pursuing the matter if people won't listen or respond appropriately.
Some forum members don’t respond to posts directly, replying instead in vague, condescending language.
They are trying to show how cool they are. The philosopher, wizard, Thai expert in everything Thai, all seeing, all knowing, how you could post such a ridiculous statement type of person.

Naturally, you casual visitors feel upset that we do not immediately see or understand your scintillating wit and fine rhetoric, but what do you expect when you are a casual and deride the regulars? Your sarcasm seems based on envy, you want instant accreditation and acceptance, well sorry but social structures don't work that way and a site such as this is a social structure, a mixture of serious comments, arguments and banter, show me a forum where this is not so.
Incidentally, if you want to point a finger at someone, have the courage to use names.

It's obvious that you aren't at this site very often. Thanks for gracing us with your wisdom though. Perhaps you can form your own forum and appoint yourself as the WM and be the recipient of all those kisses.
